“Nune” to screen at the International Filmmaker Festival of World Cinema Berlin

“Nune is a secretly sexually liberating film,” says director, Ji Strangeway.

LOS ANGELES, CA — “Nune” (pronounced noon-nay) was released in the United States several months ago and will have its European premiere at the International Filmmaker Festival of World Cinema (Berlin IFF) on October 23, 2016. The short film will screen at 3:25 pm (15:25) with a runtime of 30 minutes. Admission is free. The event is located at StephanstraBe 41, 10559 Berlin, Germany, in Screening Room #2.

“Nune” is nominated for Best Original Screenplay of a Short Film and Best Supporting Actress in a Short Film. The Berlin IFF has an extensive Awards Program with the Awards Ceremony Gala being one of the major highlights.

The film’s story revolves around a 15-year-old girl who creates a fantasy world to escape the pain of social rejection and bullying. Writer and director Ji Strangeway said the production, “Doesn’t look or behave like an LGBT film. I made it this way to transcend the illusion of what a gender-transforming citizen should ‘look like’.”

“Nune is secretly a sexually liberating film,” she further explained. “I wanted to destroy the American myth of the pretty, popular white girl being straight and not having any deeper feelings. Throughout my life growing up in Middle-America, girls like Briana Enright, performed by Jessica Lauren, did not exist.”

The role of Nune, a Mexican-Armenian suffering abuse from a privileged high school clique because she is “different,” is played by Briana Joy Chomer. The film focuses on the girls’ developing feelings for each other.

“Nune” was produced and filmed in Los Angeles, California by GYATRi Media. For more information, please visit:
