Influences: Artists and Movies that Shaped Me
Well, I actually think one of the best films ever made was Back to the Future. You gotta see some serious shit. I love back to the future. It is so entertaining. It is so well made.
I also love every American good American film is made about the high school experience and the classic ones being of course the breakfast club. And Fast Times at Ridgemont High, where, you know, Sean Penn got his break playing a stoned surfer, dude. I love those stories. But artistically, I would say that my heart really is with the French new wave movement. And I wish I was born during that time. Maybe not during that time in terms of society, but the, the creativity during that time in film was. Amazing to me, I’m a big fan of, uh, the French filmmaker, Robert Bresson and Ingmar Bergman. I really love his stuff.
And of the American filmmakers. I’m kind of old school. I love Nicholas Ray from the 1950s. You another French filmmaker and she’s female and that’s Catherine Brelliat. I do like another French filmmaker, Celine Sciamma. I can’t really say that her work influenced me, but really what I loved is that these directors have a very deep connection or deep understanding of human psychology and they also really know how to bear the soul of humanity.
